Individuals of this species observed in south-eastern part of north-eastern Thailand, south-western Laos and adjacent north-eastern Cambodia have not been assigned to subspecies.

The following 8 subspecies are recognised:

  • altera (Sims, 1957)   -  Central Laos and Vietnam (northern and central Annam).
  • williamsoni Deignan, 1948   -  Eastern Thailand east to eastern Cambodia and southern Vietnam (Cochinchina).
  • olivacea (Strickland, 1847)   -  Peninsular Thailand and Malay Peninsula to eastern Sumatra.
  • obscurior Deignan, 1948   -  Extreme south-eastern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia (except north-west), Singapore and Sumatra.
  • concreta Büttikofer, 1895   -  Belitung I, and Borneo (including Matasiri I, off south).
