Subspecies
Pellorneum tickelli (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Buff-breasted Babbler (Trichastoma tickelli) and Sumatran Babbler (Trichastoma buettikoferi) and both placed in the genus Trichastoma following Wells et al. (2001).

Previously treated as conspecific with Buff-breasted Babbler (Trichastoma tickelli). Presumably part of possible superspecies formed by Buff-breasted Babbler (Trichastoma tickelli) and Temminck's Babbler (Trichastoma pyrrogenys).

No subspecies.
