Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Somali Crombec (Sylvietta isabellina). Birds from Namibia described as subspecies ochrocara, considered indistinguishable from flecki. Nominate subspecies intergrades with latter in southern Botswana.

ansorgei Hartert, 1907 - Coastal Angola (Bengo south to Namibe).
adelphe Grote, 1927 - South-eastern DRCongo (from northern end of L Tanganyika south to eastern Katanga), western Burundi (Ruzizi Plain), Zambia (except south-western and valleys of R Zambezi and lower R Luangwa) and also northern Malawi.
flecki Reichenow, 1900 - Southern Angola (western and southern Huíla south to Cunene), Namibia (except south), south-western Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe plateau and northern South Africa (Northern Province).
pallida Alexander, 1899 - South-eastern Zambia (Luangwa and middle Zambezi Valleys), southern Malawi, northern and eastern Zimbabwe, Mozambique (southern from Tete and Zambezi Valley) and north-eastern South Africa (lowlands of eastern northern Province south to northern KwaZulu-Natal).
rufescens (Vieillot, 1817) - Southern Namibia, southern and south-western Botswana, and north-western and northern South Africa (Northern Cape, North West Province and north-western Free State).
diverga Clancey, 1954 - Central and southern South Africa (south-eastern northern Cape and south-western Free State south to western Cape and eastern Cape) and Lesotho.
resurga Clancey, 1953 - Eastern South Africa (eastern Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal) and Swaziland.
