Proposed subspecies nemorivaga (described from north-western Zimbabwe) considered indistinguishable from nominate.

loringi Mearns, 1911 - South-western Ethiopia (Addis Ababa south to Yavello and L Abiata), extreme south-eastern Sudan, north-eastern Uganda (Karamoja) and north-western Kenya (southern Turkana south to Kapenguria).
jacksoni Sharpe, 1897 - Southern and eastern Uganda, south-western and central Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, northern and central Tanzania (east to Kilimanjaro and Iringa).
minima Ogilvie-Grant, 1900 - South-eastern Kenya and north-eastern Tanzania (extending inland to Tsavo, Taveta and Morogoro).
whytii (Shelley, 1894) - South-eastern Tanzania, southern Malawi, northern and central Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
