Broadleaf evergreen forest, forest edge, secondary growth, and can be found in the vicinity of limestone rocks and outcrops and amongst moss-covered rocks and boulders. From sea-level - 1,000 m.

Subspecies
Napothera rabori (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been moved into the new genus Robsonius and split into Cordillera Ground-warbler (Robsonius rabori) and Bicol Ground-warbler (Robsonius sorsogonensis) following Collar (2006).
Previously placed in genus Napothera. Formerly regarded as conspecific with Cordillera Ground-warbler (Robsonius rabori).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
mesoluzonicus (Rand & Rabor, 1967) - Central Luzon, in northern Philippine Is.
sorsogonensis Rand and Rabor, 1967 - Southern Luzon and Catanduanes.
