Habitat
Gallery forest, secondary growth and isolated trees near forest, riverine thickets and forest relicts in farmland, farmland dominated by eucalyptus, avocado and mango trees with maize cultivated beneath. From 750 - 2,050 m.
Cameroon (B).
South-western and central Cameroon (Bamenda Highlands south of 6º north, Adamawa Plateau) and south-eastern Nigeria (Mbulu Forest); probably also extreme western Central African Republic (Yade Hills).

Voice
A fast and tuneless 'chwee pipi chwee pipi' and a more rapid and rattling variation.
Subspecies
Has previously been considered conspecific with Sharpe's Apalis (Apalis sharpii) and Gosling's Apalis (Apalis goslingi). Apparently closely related to Buff-throated Apalis (Apalis rufogularis) and both have largely non-overlapping ranges, replacing each other within 1-2 km.
No subspecies.
