Subspecies
Proposed subspecies lönnbergi (described from Pang Huai Hom and Khao Phlung, in Thailand) is a synonym of nominate.
The following 7 subspecies are recognised:
propinqua (Oustalet, 1903) - Southern China (southern Yunnan), eastern Myanmar, northern Thailand and northern Laos.
aquilonis (Deignan, 1948) - Northern Vietnam and southern China (southern Guangxi).
lekhakuni (Deignan, 1954) - Southern Myanmar (northern Tenasserim) and western Thailand (including Kanchanaburi). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Olive Bulbul (Iole viridescens).
cinnamomeoventris Stuart Baker, 1917 - Southern Myanmar (southern Tenasserim), peninsular Thailand and extreme northern Peninsular Malaysia. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Olive Bulbul (Iole viridescens).
myitkyinensis (Deignan, 1948) - Western and eastern Myanmar. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Olive Bulbul (Iole viridescens).
