Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. From sea-level - 750 m, occasionally to 1,000 m.

Range (Guide)

Colombia, Ecuador, Panama.

Eastern Panama, western Colombia and north-western Ecuador.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Probably sister to the group formed by Guianan Gnatcatcher (Polioptila guianensis), Rio Negro Gnatcatcher (Polioptila facilis), Para Gnatcatcher (Polioptila paraensis) and Iquitos Gnatcatcher (Polioptila clementsi). Recent suggestions that birds in eastern Panama and north-western Colombia possibly represent an undescribed subspecies now questioned in light of additional specimen material.
