White-lored Gnatcatcher (Polioptila albiloris) [XC274756]
by Frank Lambert from Oaxaca: West of Tehuantepec (north of rd), Mexico (call)
Subspecies
Has in the past been treated as conspecific with Black-capped Gnatcatcher (Polioptila nigriceps). Birds of nominate subspecies in arid thorn-scrub of Motagua Valley, in central Guatemala, appear to be ecologically isolated from putative conspecifics. Furher studt is required of distribution in region between 89°-90° west and 15°-14° north. Distribution in Honduras from vicinity of Cantarranas northern towards Aguan Valley similarly uncertain and it has been suggested that this population is disjunct.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
vanrossemi Brodkorb, 1944 - Southern Mexico (northern Guerrero and northern Oaxaca south to central and southern Chiapas).
albiventris Lawrence, 1885 - Coast of north-western and central-northern Yucatán, in eastern Mexico.
albiloris Sclater & Salvin, 1860 - Arid valleys of central Guatemala, interior Honduras and El Salvador southern in Pacific lowlands to north-western Costa Rica.
