Subspecies
The following 7 subspecies are recognised:
semitorquatus (Lawrence, 1862) - Caribbean slope from Costa Rica to extreme north-western Colombia (Gulf of Urabá), and Pacific slope of central Panama (Panamá Province).
cinereiventris (Sclater, 1855) - From south-eastern Panama (Darién) southern along Pacific coast to south-western Ecuador.
magdalenae Chapman, 1915 - Magdalena Valley, in northern Colombia (Bolívar, eastern Antioquia, northern Santander).
unicus Olson, 1980 - Cundinamarca, in west-central Colombia.
hormotus Olson, 1980 - East of Andes, from southern Colombia (south-eastern Nariño, western Putumayo) south to Ecuador and northern Peru (northern Amazonas).
peruvianus Chapman, 1923 - Peru east of Andes (from Amazonas south, evidently discontinuously, to northern Puno), and western Bolivia.
