Range (Guide)

Botswana, Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania [United Republic of], Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Vagrant to Kenya.

South-western Uganda, south-eastern Kenya, Tanzania, south-eastern DRCongo, Zambia and Malawi south to extreme north-eastern Namibia (eastern Caprivi), western Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Lesser Blue-eared Starling (Lamprotornis chloropterus) and Miombo Blue-eared Starling (Lamprotornis elisabeth) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as separate species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who include elisabeth as a subspecies of Lesser Blue-eared Starling (Lamprotornis chloropterus). This treatment is under review by the BirdLife Taxonomic Working Group.

May form a superspecies with Sharp-tailed Starling (Lamprotornis acuticaudus).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Lesser Blue-eared Starling (Lamprotornis chloropterus).
