Subspecies
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
- maculatus Vigors, 1831 - Eastern Afghanistan and western and central Himalayas.
- guttatus Gould, 1866 - Eastern Himalayas, Myanmar and southern China (south-western Sichuan, western and central Yunnan).
- bacatus Bangs & Phillips, JC, 1914 - Northern Indochina and south-eastern China (south-eastern Yunnan east to Fujian).
- robinsoni Baker, ECS, 1922 - Langbian Plateau, in south-central Vietnam.
