Subspecies
Previously treated as conspecific with Lowland Akalat (Sheppardia cyornithopsis).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- acholiensis Macdonald, 1940 - Imatong Mts, in southern Sudan.
- aequatorialis (Jackson, 1906) - Eastern DRCongo, southern Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and western Kenya.
