Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
albiventer Junge, 1933 - Sumatra.
rufifrons Wallace, 1865 - Western Borneo.
caerulatus (Bonaparte, 1857) - Northern, eastern and southern Borneo.
Similar Species
Male Mangrove Blue-Flycatcher (Cyornis rufigastra) is similar, but lacks the contrasting pale forehead and supercilium and is duller on the lower back and rump. Female is blue above with whitish loral spot.
