Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Chapin's Flycatcher (Fraseria lendu). Racial identity of birds west of Ghana (except Mt Nimba) uncertain, tentatively included within nominate. Further study is required.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
olivascens (Cassin, 1859) - Patchily in south-eastern Sierra Leone, south-eastern Guinea, north-western Liberia and southern Ivory Coast, and from Ghana (Fanti) east to southern Cameroon and south-western Central African Republic, south to southern and western PRCongo, also eastern DRCongo (northern Ituri south to Kasai).
