Lowland forests. From sea-level - 1,200 m.
Philippines (B) (NB).
Luzon, Negros and Samar in the Philippines.

Estimated population is 10,000 - 19,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat loss through illegal logging, slash-and-burn agriculture, and hman encroachment are the main threats.

Voice
A series of short, fast, high-pitched warbled phrases frequently preceded by a quiet 'wee-tit wee-tit'.
Subspecies
No subspecies.
Probably forms a superspecies with Asian Brown Flycatcher (Muscicapa dauurica) and Sumba Brown Flycatcher (Muscicapa segregata) and all have previously been considered conspecific.
Similar Species
A number of superficially similar flycatchers occur sympatrically. The yellow base to bill and largely plain grey underparts, lacking distinct streaking, are diagnostic.
