Subspecies
May form a superspecies with Brown-chested Alethe (Chamaetylas poliocephala ), White-chested Alethe (Chamaetylas fuelleborni ) and Thyolo Alethe (Chamaetylas choloensis ).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
poliophrys (Sharpe, 1902) - North-eastern and eastern DRCongo, western Uganda, western Rwanda and western Burundi.
kaboboensis (Prigogine, 1957) - Mt Kabobo, in eastern DRCongo.
