Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
pallasii Temminck, 1820 - Eastern Russia, central and eastern China, Korea, Sakhalin I, southern Kuril Is, Japan (south to Yakushima) and Taiwan.
tenuirostris Bonaparte, 1850 - Tien Shan Mts south to northern Afghanistan, and from north-western Pakistan (Safed Koh) east in Himalayas to Sikkim.
dorjei Kinnear, 1937 - Eastern Himalayas east to mountains of western, northern and eastern Myanmar, southern China (western Yunnan), north-western Thailand, northern and central Laos and north-western Vietnam.
