Habitat
Humid cloud forest dominated with Colombian Oak (Quercus humboldtii), and strongly dependant on Andean Dwarf Bamboo (Chusquea cf scandens) thickets under the forest canopy or treefall/landslide gaps. From 2,600 - 3,300 m.

Habitat loss and fragmentation are the main threats. Its currently known range is a protected area. Estimated population is about 250 (2010).

Habits
A shy terrestrial antpitta that forages on insects in the leaf-litter and dense understorey. Sings from perches up to 1.5 meters above the ground from within a dense bamboo understory. The species is most active and vocal after dawn and before dusk. Singly, in twos and occasionally groups of 3 - 4.
Voice
A three-note song 'tu, tuut, tuuet', increasing in frequency and length, the first lowest and shortest, the last highest and longest. The call is a sharp, loud, single note.
