Subspecies
No subspecies.
Luhder's Bush-Shrike (Laniarius luehderi), Braun's Bush-Shrike (Laniarius brauni) and Gabela Bush-Shrike (Laniarius amboimensis) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as separate species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who include brauni and amboimensis as subspecies of Luhder's Bush-Shrike (Laniarius luehderi).
Forms a superspecies with Luhder's Bush-Shrike (Laniarius luehderi) and Gabela Bush-Shrike (Laniarius amboimensis), and all formerly regarded as conspecific. Recent molecular-genetic work indicates that this superspecies is sister to the superspecies formed by Ethiopian Boubou (Laniarius aethiopicus) and Turati's Boubou (Laniarius turatii).
