Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest, swamp forest, heavily degraded former forest.
Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand.
Southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and western Java.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Has been treated as conspecific with White-bellied Fantail (Rhipidura euryura ), and close relationship with Northern Fantail (Rhipidura rufiventris ) has also been suggested, but little evidence presented to support either possibility.
