Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest. Most abundant in higher-altitude primary forest with an open understorey. However, it is also recorded from disturbed habitats, lowland and monsoon forests.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Forms a superspecies with Indian Cuckooshrike (Coracina macei), Large Cuckooshrike (Coracina javensis), Slaty Cuckooshrike (Coracina schistacea), Wallacean Cuckooshrike (Coracina personata), Moluccan Cuckooshrike (Coracina atriceps), Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike (Coracina novaehollandiae), Coracina welchmani and South Melanesian Cuckooshrike (Coracina caledonica), possibly also including Stout-billed Cuckooshrike (Coracina caeruleogrisea). All were formerly treated as conspecific.
