Habitat
Virtually unknown but it is likely to be similar to the allospecific Hooded Butcherbird (Cracticus cassicus). Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. Also, rural gardens.

Papua New Guinea (B).

Tagula Island in the Louisiade Archipelago of Papua New Guinea.

Estimated population is unknown (2010) and increasing.

Status DD
Habitat degradation due to logging is the main threat.

Forms a superspecies with Pied Butcherbird (Cracticus nigrogularis) and Hooded Butcherbird (Cracticus cassicus). Possibly conspecific with Hooded Butcherbird (Cracticus cassicus).
