Subspecies
No subspecies.
Relationships uncertain. May possibly belong in the superspecies formed by Brown Gerygone (Gerygone mouki) and Grey Gerygone (Gerygone igata) and all were once considered (together with the extinct Lord Howe I species Lord Howe Gerygone (Gerygone insularis)) to be conspecific, but they differ significantly in plumage and song. Possibly closer to Mangrove Gerygone (Gerygone levigaster) - Western Gerygone (Gerygone fusca) group. Further study is required.
Similar Species
None. The only Gerygone on Norfolk Island.
