Eastern Australia, generally west of the Great Dividing Range, from the Gulf of Carpentaria to north-western Victoria, northern South Australia and Central Australia, and in Western Asustralia from the Kimberley south to the Moore River.

Nest
Cup-shaped, composed of grass and fine rootlets, lined with finer materials, in a low bush or tall grass.
Eggs (Guide)
3 or 4; white, spotted with red-back, purplish and grey, particularly at the larger end; oval; about 17 x 14 mm. Incubation: 12 days; by both sexes.
Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in about 14 days.

Similar Species
Red-capped Robin (Petroica goodenovii) in which the red on the head only extends to the top of the crown, has a black throat and eyering, a white belly and white wing bars.
