Rand, 1940

Habitat
Inland wetlands. Also subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest and heavily degraded former forest from 80 - 275 m.

Range (Guide)
Indonesia (B).

Upper Mamberamo Basin (Idenburg R, lower Mamberamo R, probably also Rouffaer R) and Wapoga Basin (Tirawiwa R and Logari R), in western New Guinea.
 
Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Large-scale timber and agricultural schemes and a proposed dam on the Mamberamo gorge are potential threats.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Forms a superspecies with Timor Friarbird (Philemon inornatus), Little Friarbird (Philemon citreogularis) and Grey Friarbird (Philemon kisserensis).
