Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- nigricapillus Ridgway, 1893 - Caribbean slope of Costa Rica and both slopes of Panama (east to western San Blas).
- destructus Hartert, 1898 - Pacific Colombia and Ecuador.
