Subspecies
Possibly better placed in genus Syndactyla. In several respects (bill shape, vocalizations) more similar to members of that genus than to those of present genus. Species name often spelt "dimidiatus", but must agree with neuter gender of genus. The taxon Syndactyla mirandae, described from central Brazil (Goiás) and subsequently treated as a subspecies of Buff-browed Foliage-gleaner (Syndactyla rufosuperciliata), is in fact a synonym of present species, presumably of subspecies baeri. Latter formerly considered a separate species.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
dimidiata (Pelzeln, 1859) - South-western Brazil (southern Mato Grosso).
baeri Hellmayr, 1911 - Interior south-eastern Brazil (Goiás, Minas Gerais) and east-central Paraguay (Concepción).
