Subspecies
No subspecies.

Plumage similarities have suggested to some authors that this is the sister-species to Canyon Canastero (Asthenes pudibunda) and others have proposed that the two form a superspecies with Maquis Canastero (Asthenes heterura), or that latter is a subspecies of one or other of them.
