Subspecies
No subspecies.
No obvious close relatives. Plumage, nest architecture and placement, and voice suggest relationship to Xenerpestes. Morphology, nest architecture and voice also suggest possible link to Metopothrix or Margarornis. Song and nest structure suggest possible link to some Asthenes or Cranioleuca. The only furnariid with juvenile plumage radically different from adult.
