Habitat
Foothill forest with a dense, structurally complex understory, often with Chusquea bamboo. From 600 - 1,500 m.
Bolivia (B) (NB), Peru (B) (NB).
North-eastern base of Andes in western Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba, western Santa Cruz).

Subspecies
Appears to be closely related to Plain-winged Antwren (Myrmotherula behni ) on basis of habitat and vocalizations, also to Unicolored Antwren (Myrmotherula unicolor ) and Alagoas Antwren (Myrmotherula snowi ) of Brazilian Atlantic Forest, the four together termed the "Plain-winged Myrmotherula group". They are often grouped with White-flanked Antwren (Myrmotherula axillaris ), Slaty Antwren (Myrmotherula schisticolor ), Rio Suno Antwren (Myrmotherula sunensis ), Salvadori's Antwren (Myrmotherula minor ), Ihering's Antwren (Myrmotherula iheringi ), Rio de Janeiro Antwren (Myrmotherula fluminensis ), Long-winged Antwren (Myrmotherula longipennis ), Band-tailed Antwren (Myrmotherula urosticta ) and Grey Antwren (Myrmotherula menetriesii ) as the "grey antwren assemblage", although this grouping possibly not monophyletic.
