Subspecies
Belongs to the "Barred Antshrike (Thamnophilus doliatus) group", which also includes Chapman's Antshrike (Thamnophilus zarumae), Bar-crested Antshrike (Thamnophilus multistriatus), Lined Antshrike (Thamnophilus tenuepunctatus), Chestnut-backed Antshrike (Thamnophilus palliatus) and Rufous-winged Antshrike (Thamnophilus torquatus). • cochabambae (Chapman, 1921)   -  Eastern Cochabamba and south-western Santa Cruz south to north-western Argentina (Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán).
