Subspecies
Relationships uncertain.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

nigrofrontalis Phelps & Phelps Jr, 1947 - Extreme south-western Venezuela (Macizo de Cuao-Sipapo, in western Amazonas).
insignis Salvin & Godman, 1884 - Southern Venezuela (tepuis of Bol��var and eastern Amazonas), and Mt Roraima and its vicinity in extreme western Guyana and adjoining northern Brazil (extreme northern Roraima).
