Subspecies
No subspecies.
Closely related to Golden-breasted Fruiteater (Pipreola aureopectus), Orange-breasted Fruiteater (Pipreola jucunda) and Black-chested Fruiteater (Pipreola lubomirskii), and all sometimes treated as conspecific, but plumages distinct, and no indication of intergradation.
