Incompletely known. south-western and southern Mexico, from southern Sinaloa south to Chiapas; populations in central-western Chiapas (between El Sumidero and Tuxtla Gutiérrez, in Atlantic drainage of Cuenca Central) likely isolated from those along Pacific coast. Possibly also in Guatemala.
