Subspecies
Phylogenetic analysis of mitochondrial DNA indicates that this species is sister to Puerto Rican Flycatcher (Myiarchus antillarum). Unpublished analysis also suggests that subspecies sclateri is sister to the other three subspecies. Earlier authors treated sanctaeluciae as a subspecies of Brown-crested Flycatcher (Myiarchus tyrannulus) and sclateri as a subspecies of Stolid Flycatcher (Myiarchus stolidus). General clinal increase in size from north to south, but this this pattern "disrupted" on Martinique (sclateri).
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
berlepschii Cory, 1888 - St Kitts, St Christopher, Nevis and Barbuda.
oberi Lawrence, 1877 - Guadeloupe and Dominica.
sclateri Lawrence, 1879 - Martinique.
sanctaeluciae Hellmayr & Seilern, 1915 - St Lucia.
