Habitat
Subtropical and tropical high altitude and temperate grassland. From 2,500 - 4,300 m, occasionally down to 1,800 m.
Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru.
High cordilleras of Chile (Antofagasta south to Santiago) and central Argentina (western Mendoza south to western Río Negro, with isolated population on Somuncará Plateau). Winters north to southern Peru and western Bolivia.
