Subspecies
No subspecies.
Genus sometimes placed near Gubernetes and Muscipipra on basis of anatomical and morphological characters. Also, Polioxolmis and Cnemarchus have frequently been merged with this genus. Formerly placed with Smoky Bush-Tyrant (Myiotheretes fumigatus) and Rufous-bellied Bush-Tyrant (Myiotheretes fuscorufus) in a separate genus, Ochthodiaeta.
Similar Species
Streak-throated Bush-Tyrant (Myiotheretes striaticollis) is larger and paler cinnamon-rufous below. Inner webs of remiges edged rufous and tipped black. Breast streaking more striking.
