Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.
Population
Estimated population is 25,000 - 28,000 (2010) and decreasing.
Status EN
Declining. Principle cause being heavy extraction of guano, but also hunting and predation by rats, cats and dogs. Rabbits also destroy burrows.

Food
Small crustaceans and small fish.
Nest
In deep burrows the bird excavates in thick guano, and also in sandy soils. Also natural rock crevices.
Subspecies
Forms superspecies with South Georgian Diving-Petrel (Pelecanoides georgicus) and Magellanic Diving-petrel (Pelecanoides magellani).
No subspecies.
