1 occasionally 2; white, but readily becomes stained; ellipsoidal; 79 - 103 x 49 - 59 mm. Incubation: 28 - 30 days; by both sexes.
Subspecies
Phoenicopterus ruber (Sibley and Monroe, 1990, 1993) has been split into Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) and American Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) following Knox et al. (2002), contra SACC (2005).
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of American Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber).
