Habitat
Freshwater wetlands, including pools and lakes fringed with reeds.
Colombia (E) (B).
Bogota wetlands of the eastern Andes, Colombia.

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.
Status EX
Still abundant in 1945 but drainage of wetlands, pesticide polution, reed harvesting, hunting and predation by introduced rainbow trout caused a population crash during the 1950s and it was extinct by 1977.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Black-necked Grebe (Podiceps nigricollis), Southern Silvery Grebe (Podiceps occipitalis) and Junin Grebe (Podiceps taczanowskii).
