Habitat destruction and degradation through urbanisation, industrialisation, agricultural expansion, colonisation and associated road-building, are the main threats.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with White Hawk (Pseudastur albicollis) and Grey-backed Hawk (Pseudastur occidentalis). Has been considered a subspecies of White Hawk (Pseudastur albicollis).
