Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest.
Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Côte dIvoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Togo, Uganda.
Liberia east to western Uganda and south to south-western and central Zaire.

Subspecies
Monotypic genus, apparently very close to Accipiter , with which has been merged. Has also been linked with other endemic African genera, Melierax and Kaupifalco .
Proposed subspecies batesi for populations from Cameroon eastwards is invalid.
No subspecies.
