Habitat
Subtropical and tropical, hill and montane forest, forest edges and adjacent gardens.
Indonesia (B), Papua New Guinea (B), Solomon Islands (B).
Halmahera and Seram (Moluccas) through northern and eastern New Guinea to New Britain and Solomon Is (on Kolombangara and Guadalcanal).

Subspecies
Possibly forms superspecies with Northern Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis ), Black Sparrowhawk (Accipiter melanoleucus ) and Henst's Goshawk (Accipiter henstii ). Geographical variation may exist.
