Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest. From 760 - 1,430 m, occasionally 200 - 1,600 m.
Papua New Guinea (B) (NB).
Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.
Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat destruction and degradation through logging and onversion to oil palm plantations is the main threat.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Grey-headed Goshawk (Accipiter poliocephalus), of which formerly considered a subspecies, but larger and more robust with some differences in adult plumage.
