A structure of sticks in dense foliage in a tall tree.

Eggs (Guide)
1 - 2; white.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Sulawesi Goshawk (Accipiter griseiceps).

The following 11 subspecies are recognised:

layardi (Whistler, 1936) - Sri Lanka.
peninsulae Koelz, 1949 - South-western India.
indicus (Hodgson, 1836) - North-central, north-eastern and eastern India and Nepal to southern China, including Hainan, and south to Indochina and Malay Peninsula.
formosae Mayr, 1949 - Taiwan.
trivirgatus (Temminck, 1824) - Sumatra.
niasensis Mayr, 1949 - Nias I (off western Sumatra).
javanicus Mayr, 1949 - Java; recently recorded on Bali.
microstictus Mayr, 1949 - Borneo.
palawanus Mayr, 1949 - Palawan, Calamianes (south-western Philippines); may also be subspecies of Natuna Is (off western Borneo).
extimus Mayr, 1945 - South-eastern Philippines.
castroi Manuel & Gilliard, 1952 - Polillo Is, off eastern Luzon (northern Philippines).
