Habitat
Inland wetlands. Also, subtropical and tropical lowland seasonally wet / flooded grassland, dry savanna, heavily degraded former forest, arable land. From 300 - 1,000 m.
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay (B), Venezuela.
Vagrant to Falkland Islands (Malvinas).
South-western Colombia to the Guianas, Trinidad and Tobago, and north-eastern Brazil (Pará and Maranhão), then south to eastern Bolivia, northern and central Argentina and central Chile.
