Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland dry grassland, pastureland, arable land.
Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka.
Pakistan and parts of Nepal through most of India to dry parts of north-western Sri Lanka, from north of Puttalam to Jaffna Peninsula; no recent records in Bangladesh.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Cream-coloured Courser (Cursorius cursor ), Temminck's Courser (Cursorius temminckii ) and Burchell's Courser (Cursorius rufus ), although first two taxa may represent a separate superspecies. Occasionally considered to include Temminck's Courser (Cursorius temminckii ).
