Large. Long necked, long upcurved bill. Sexes similar.
Adults : Entirely white except wings, back, tail, blackish-brown. Rump, white. Underwings, white with black remiges. Eyering, red. Eye, black. Bill, black and upturned. Legs, blue-grey, partially webbed.
Female : Bill is more upturned than in male.
