Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. From sea-level - 1,000 m.
Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Cayman Islands, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Venezuela.
Unknown to Jamaica.

Subspecies
Nominate concolor of Jamaica recently extinct.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- concolor ! (Gosse, 1847) - Jamaica. Extinct.
- guatemalensis (Lawrence, 1863) - Southern Mexico south to Ecuador.
- castaneus (Pucheran, 1851) - Venezuela, the Guianas, Brazil, eastern Peru and eastern Bolivia.
